This half circle shawl, inspired by Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Pi Shawl, is knit top down with three different lace sections. Simple increase rows separate and define each lace section and create the shaping. The lace border is knitted directly onto live stitches, no long bind off or picking up stitches.

This design was created for a lace knitting class to demonstrate some of the tricky things found when knitting lace, such as changing stitch counts, no stitch spaces and moving stitch markers.
